Sometimes I don’t have a lot to say, but I still have something worth saying.
I’ve noticed there is still a holdover attitude that to be important, educational, or provocative it must be long(winded). Why must meaning be lost in superfluous words? Many times we make our words more eloquent by “taking away” not “adding to”.
We’ve realized this about other things, the idea that less is more growing. We’ve even scrutinized the “bigger is better” attitude concerning food and many have decided bigger isn’t always better.
Does the same apply to content? What if “more” doesn’t equal “better”? Can we remind ourselves that quality is more important than quantity? We aren’t in school anymore, there is no teacher demanding a certain word or page count (well, maybe your boss does demand this, and if that is the case, maybe your boss should give that demand some thought.)
What is the most effective way you can express yourself to clearly communicate your ideas? Figure that out and you’re golden. Forget what everyone else says (including me!)
